Privacy Policy
The short version: Woodshelf is a client for a server you choose. It sends your data to that server and nowhere else. We run no servers of our own that see your library, your listening, or your account, and the app contains no analytics or advertising.
What the app stores on your phone
- Your server address, username and sign-in tokens. Kept in the iPhone keychain so the app can reconnect without asking you to sign in each time. Signing out deletes them.
- A copy of your library listing (titles, authors, series, covers, your progress and bookmarks) so the app works offline. It is kept in the app's private storage and removed when you delete the app.
- Audiobook files you download, in the app's private storage, removable from the Downloads screen or by deleting the app.
- Settings such as playback speed and skip intervals.
What the app sends, and to whom
- To your Audiobookshelf server only: your credentials when you sign in, requests for your library and audio, and your listening progress, bookmarks and session history, which the server records against your account exactly as the Audiobookshelf web client would. What that server does with the data is governed by whoever runs it, which for most users is themselves.
- To Apple: if you have enabled sharing of analytics and crash data with developers in iOS settings, Apple may send us anonymised crash reports and basic usage statistics for the app through App Store Connect and TestFlight. These contain no account details, server addresses or library content. You control this in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
- To no one else. The app has no third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising or tracking, and makes no network requests other than to the server address you entered and, for fonts and metadata only, none at all.
CarPlay, Siri and other Apple features
Information shown on a CarPlay screen or on the lock screen (book title, author, cover, progress) is passed to iOS for display and stays on your devices. Woodshelf does not use Siri or location.
This website
The site is static and sets no cookies. Our web server keeps ordinary access logs (IP address, page requested, browser type) for up to 30 days to detect abuse, then discards them. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads; no other third party is involved.
Children
Woodshelf is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices and rights
- Sign out to remove your credentials from the phone; delete the app to remove everything else it stored.
- Your listening data lives on your Audiobookshelf server, where you or its administrator can view, export or delete it.
- If you are in the UK or EU you have rights of access, correction and erasure over any personal data we hold. Since we hold none from the app, requests will usually be directed to the operator of your server. For anything about this website or our communications with you, email us.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and, for anything material, say so in the app's release notes.
